It's fun to watch the youngster (beau, the white lab) play / tease the old man (hud, the white golden retriever)....when I first starting watching beau as a 1-2 month old puppy the first couple times he was scared of hud....but now as a 10 month old....he doesn't take any of hud's bulling anymore....that's good, they've become best friends.

was able to get out and capture the sunset over the weekend....got some great shots especially since there was some one else doing the same thing and I was able to get him in a lot of the shots to make them more interesting then just of the sky, clouds during the sunset.

Couple nights ago I was dog sitting......you'd think we just had a large thanksgiving dinner.....tank was comfortable in front of the fire before I made her move so I could move the leather club chair so I could sit in front of it and watch the basketball game....she retired to the floor space in front of the couch as hud and chuck already had it occupied.....i don;t have a fireplace myself so when I get the chance to use one I take full advantage!

when I was home for the christmas holiday we (my mom & dad & sister and I) went up to wichita to botanica gardens to see the christmas lights....lots of walking and cold....but was really pretty.....pathways were lighted with the paper bag lights....there were heat laps every so often and also small fire places to warm yourself with...at the gift shop/conference room area you could get hot cider, hot chocolate and you buy the makings for smores and go out and at the fire pit make them

Christmas is really for kids.....and when you get older it's not about the present's but rather it is more about family time....as we get older and each kid has their family and they grow up and start their family's it's harder to get together...this is probably the last time my whole family will be together as one due to work commitment's (my one nephew is a highway patrolman and he will have to work next christmas since he had this yr off), family's growing, distance from each other and let's admit it...old age. It was really nice we could all get together even if it was just for a night....hopefully the next christmas we'll mostly all be able to get together and enjoy some more family time.

THE NEW OLD BARN

The old barn (built in the 1920s or older but added on over the yrs) on the farm was looking pretty bad, not to mention about to fall down here on the back side....my niece has horses so my brother decided it was time to do something about it and instead of tearing it down and building a new one he wanted to save the old one....a neighbor who is in the construction business has helped....the structure was more or less pretty sound but some areas needed some re-enforcing....and he is also is putting on the new tin roof and along the back side.....my brother is working on the inside cleaning it out and putting in stalls and feeding area's for the horses....next trip home that will probably be all done and i'll have to get some pics of the inside then.

at the christmas light display the other night we roasted marshmellows and made smores...bring back memories from way back when of roasting marshmellows in the winter while ice skating or in the fall down in the pasture during football season and the couple parties my cousin had.

June was a travel month for me....so chose 2 pics to post....1. I made it back to kansas to one of my nephew's wedding...there was a "professional" photographer to take pics but my sister wanted me to take pics also...more candid ones, etc....I did more or less shadow the other photographer (which he didn't mind) so got the usual standard wedding pics along with some more candid one's...this one was taken before the reception which was held out at the bride's family farm, my nephew marcus and his new bride faith..........2. harvest happened to be early this yr so was able to enjoy that again for the first time is some 25 yrs or so....always a fun time.

flowers, people, ducks & dogs......but settled on yours truly for this months pic.....I rarely get pics of myself for many reasons.....1. I'm very picky/self conscious on my image. 2. It's hard getting good self pics & 3. why waste all my time trying to get pics of me when there is so much other interesting things to get pics of..
one of my gardening projects this yr has been to build a barrier around the raised pond to keep the raccoons and opossums out....the final product wasn't what I had envisioned but it turned out ok and I can live with it...probably still be doing some tweaking to it in the future.

february here in los angeles can be summer like to winter like.....really cold nights but usually warms up in the afternoons...this time of yr also brings in some cold storms that cover the local mountains with snow....usually you see shots with downtown los angeles in the foreground....which I have a lot of those also....but this one I took when I took the dogs I walk on a hike in griffith park...that is glendale in the foreground with the snow capped san grabiel mountains in the background.

Monday's the Griffith Park Observatory is closed..but a couple weeks ago when I was there with beau on a hike the director came out and made an announcement to anyone who was interested to come to this spot and hear a little talk about the sun and whatever....Beau and 1 were on the upper deck and we were more interested in the people....well, he was more interested in a couple other dogs that were near-by.

this is the view from our shower of the neighbor's tree that was damaged in the strong winds we had...it is leaning against the corner of their garage....if the garage corner failed it would have crushed the other neighbor's garage and the back of their house

tree trimmers came yesterday to cut it down....they had to cut a branch off a tree in the front yard so they could lift the cut portions of the tree to the front yard and cut them up then

here they are cutting the tree into sections and lifting it over the houses to the front yard to be cut up and put thru the shredder

out view now...can see more of the san grabrial mountians (looking towards glendale/eaglerock/pasaderna for those who know the area)...i had to leave but really wanted to get more pics of them hoisting the larger tree trunk portion over the houses and cutting them up.

I went downtown to grab something to eat at Phillip's french dip sandwich place last sunday and after stopped over at the Occupy LA camp around City Hall......was pretty quiet, most were in their tents sleeping or doing whatever I guess......thought there would be more activity but guess since downtown is pretty dead on the weekends they rest up for the workweek?

The annual Love Ride was today....it's is a motocycle ride from the Harley Davidson store here in Glendale (just a few blocks from me) to Castic Lake....where there is a big event/concert then. I walked over and got tons of pics...mostly detail type shots of the bikes......it wasn't as big as the one 3 yrs ago but would guess probably 2-3,000 at least.....It has been hosted for years by Jay Leno (no pics of him)...I'll be posting more pics in the coming days.
